Comfortably Numb (Swapnil Agaskar)

A beautiful setting sun on a golden evening has always inspired warm romantic poems from many a creative personalities...but when someone describes a setting sun as....

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older And shorter of breath and one day closer to death.."

...It has to be Pink Floyd. They talk of Death, Youth and Wasted Education.
They describe the common working man as......

"Run, run rabbit run Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to start another one
For long you live and high you fly But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave You race toward an early grave."

Pink Floyd with their superb guitaring, melancholic horns and rasping vocals have thrilled thousands of fans worldwide. Their album ' Dark Side Of the Moon ' is an anthem by itself. It became the best selling record of all time, selling more than 25 million copies. The album itself stayed on the Billboard chart for over a decade!

Unfortunately in India Floyd was followed only in College Hostels and a few homes where the music was passed thru by the generation. Lack of availability of music cassettes was one reason but the actual fact is that India awoke to Western music as late as the eighties...and most of the country never ever awoke to Rock music at all...

So if you're in a mood to listen to something like....

"And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"

or maybe......

"So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?......

....get a floyd CD and siphon it in your brain!!!...Or as the West describes it..achieve Nirvana!!!

Swapnil Agaskar.
